“I had always dreamed of opening a one-of-a-kind facility dedicated to orthopedic manual physical therapy. I have worked in many different settings specializing in the treatment of sports-related injuries as well as a variety of orthopedic conditions. I’ve seen and treated patients in hospitals, private clinics and long-term care facilities. My dream turned into reality in August 2006 when I opened OMPT Specialists. I enjoy the freedom to treat my patients and take as much time as I feel I need in caring for them one-on-one.”

JOHN R. KRAUSS, PT, PhD, OCS, FAAOMPT
Senior Manual Physical Therapist

Fellow: American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy
Certified: Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, American Physical Therapy Association
PhD: Physical Therapy, Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL

“I was attracted to the field of physical therapy from a very young age. I wanted to pursue it not only as an art but as a science. Traditional physical therapy focuses on the treatment of symptoms. Often this means an unresponsive treatment because the real cause of the problem may be located elsewhere. This treatment of ‘referred pain’ can lead to an inaccurate physical therapy evaluation and ineffective treatment.”

Dr. Krauss is the coordinator of the Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Graduate Certification and an Associate Professor at Oakland University School of Health Sciences. Dr. Krauss has authored/coauthored numerous books, book chapters and peer-reviewed articles on manual treatment for a variety of orthopedic conditions.

Doctoral Degree: Physical Therapy, Oakland University, Rochester, MI
Bachelors of Science: Exercise Science, Minor in Biology; Western Michigan University
Member: American Physical Therapy Association, Michigan Physical Therapy Association

“I was seventeen when my world felt like it was flipped upside down by a knee injury. In the weeks following my injury I had surgery and started my road to recovery in physical therapy. It was the knowledge, skill, and overall support from my physical therapist that helped me through this difficult time and got me back on my feet. This experience spurred my interest in helping others in a similar way, and has since evolved into a lasting passion. Physical therapy is not about treating an injured body part; it’s about considering the person as a whole and determining what they need in order to reach their goals. Every person is different, which makes everyday a new and exciting challenge.”

Christie has experience treating patients of all ages with a wide variety of orthopedic and neurologic conditions, including athletic injuries, surgeries, and degenerative changes.

When I was younger, my dad went to physical therapy after having surgery on his knee. After successful treatment, my dad was able to return to his regular activities which included family bike rides, playing catch in the yard, and coaching softball. Years later, I chose this profession not only because of my interest in anatomy and physiology, but because of the positive impact that I knew I could have on my patients' lives. By having my patients reach their goals I am not only improving their quality of life, but those around them as well.

Emily has a strong background in manual therapy for both the spine and extremities and has a particular interest in treating conditions of the spine. She has worked in outpatient orthopedics treating a variety of conditions ranging from post-operative surgeries, neurological conditions, and sports injuries across all age spans.
