overview

Why Orthopedic & Manual PT?

Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) is an advanced form of physical therapy entailing a deep understanding of complex orthopedic issues. Through rigorous postgraduate education, extensive clinical hours, and mastery of evidence-based manual techniques, OMPT-trained therapists can accurately diagnose the true source of pain and movement dysfunction. With this specialized expertise, patients receive a higher level of care that leads to faster recovery, better long-term function, and confidence in their body’s ability to heal.

A Higher Level of Care Guided by a Deep Understanding of the Body

Anatomy

With a deeper understanding of anatomy, our OMPT specialists can identify the true source of pain more accurately and deliver highly targeted treatment.

Biomechanics

Advanced knowledge in biomechanics helps our PTs understand how the body should move versus how it is moving, therefore correcting faulty movement patterns at the source.

Musculoskeletal System

Expertise in the musculoskeletal system allows our therapists to pinpoint how bones, joints, muscles, and connective tissues interact, so they can treat the root cause of pain.

the ompt certification

Trust that You're in Good Hands

The OMPT Certification is a post graduate certification in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy. The certification is provided by Oakland University to physical therapists who want to advance their knowledge and skill in manual therapy. It requires a physical therapist to study for 2 more years above and beyond the regular therapy degrees (PT, MPT, DPT) and gives them an additional 200 extensive clinical hours. Individuals must pass numerous exams and clinical training to be OMPT Certified.

OMPT's Treatment Philosophy & Process

The treatment philosophy of an OMPT is a continuum of the evaluation process, dictating personalized treatment for each patient.

Comprehensive Evaluation

Every patient begins with an in-depth, one-on-one assessment.

This is not a quick screening. It is a full clinical analysis that includes:

  • Detailed medical and injury history
  • Movement and biomechanical analysis
  • Postural and gait assessment
  • Strength, mobility, and stability testing
  • Functional performance evaluation
  • Lifestyle and activity demand review

We evaluate the entire kinetic chain not just the area of pain to uncover compensation and contributing factors.

Diagnostic Testing

We utilize objective testing to remove guesswork and improve accuracy.

Depending on the case, this may include:

  • Musculoskeletal clinical special testing
  • Functional movement screening
  • Range of motion quantification
  • Strength symmetry analysis
  • Balance and neuromuscular testing
  • Outcome measurement tracking tools

This data allows us to confirm clinical findings and establish measurable baselines.

Personalized Treatment Plan

No cookie-cutter protocols. No generic exercises.

Your treatment plan is specifically designed based on:

  • Your diagnosis
  • Your goals (pain relief, return to sport, surgery avoidance, performance)
  • Your lifestyle and schedule
  • Objective testing results

Your plan may include:

  • Manual therapy and joint mobilization
  • Soft tissue treatment
  • Corrective exercise progression
  • Neuromuscular re-education
  • Performance strengthening
  • Movement retraining
  • Injury prevention strategies

We explain the “why” behind everything we do because informed patients get better outcomes.

Improve & Refine

Recovery is not static, it evolves.

We continuously:

  • Reassess progress using objective metrics
  • Adjust intensity and exercise progressions
  • Eliminate compensations
  • Advance toward higher-level performance
  • Transition from rehabilitation to resilience

Our final phase focuses on durability, ensuring patients do not relapse once pain is gone.
